Tragic News on Cargo Plane Crash: Death Toll Increases to 13

The tally of fatalities due to the UPS cargo plane which burst into flames and crashed has now risen to 13, per latest announcements.

Mayor's Remarks

“On my way to the Teamsters’ memorial service, I was informed of a additional fatality that lost their life as a consequence of the UPS flight 2976 crash,” stated the city mayor in a online message. “My prayers is with the relatives, friends and peers of all who were killed in this recent calamity. We will overcome this together.”

Victims Named

An announcement from the carrier listed the flight crew on board the aircraft as Captain Richard Wartenberg, First Officer Lee Truitt, and Relief Captain Dana Diamond.

“Our sympathies are extended to every staff member who has been affected and everyone in our Louisville region – helping you and making sure you receive the care and assistance you need is our main concern,” the firm’s statement read.

Probe Findings

National officials revealed that the UPS cargo plane’s wing caught fire and an power plant separated soon after liftoff from the aviation hub, leading to the aircraft to plummet and explode into a fireball.

The safety agency stated it is probing the plane’s service record, which was in the state for repairs several weeks ahead of the incident.

Flight tracking records showed the jet was on the tarmac in the Texas city from early September to 18 October.

“We are aware that this plane was there in the facility,” remarked an investigator on Thursday, without a precise period. “We will review all elements of service that was completed, including the Texas period, all the way to the date of the journey.”

Recovery of Critical Components

The pilot’s recorder and flight data recorder were recovered, and the power plant was located on the runway.

The units – called black boxes – were built to survive accident forces and extreme temperatures from fires, and they looked to be undamaged when located amid the wreckage. Authorities intend to reviewing data from the black boxes.

Jet’s final flight details indicated an altitude of that level and a velocity of 210 mph prior to the accident.

Service Record

Based on aviation authority records dated 18 September, a crack on a part in the center wing fuel tank needed repairs.

Singapore-based ST Engineering, which said it offers structural repairs for the carrier’s aircraft and operates a service location in San Antonio, chose not to provide remarks, but said it would cooperate fully when investigators contacted it.

Operations Restart

In the meantime, UPS Worldport operations resumed Wednesday night with its overnight also known as night sort process, official the company official confirmed. All three tarmacs at the airport were also reopened.

The UPS package handling facility in Louisville is the firm’s largest. The hub employs more than twenty thousand people in the area, handles 300 trips each day and processes in excess of 400,000 packages per hour.

Public Response

A candlelight vigil was organized on the late afternoon of 6 November by the local worker’s group, which acts for workers at the airfield, the organization’s primary freight center.

Teamsters Local 89, which stands for UPS workers, commenced the vigil with a quiet tribute at 5.14pm, the rough hour of the crash previously.

“This tragedy was so sudden, so surprising,” the mayor addressed the group of two hundred. “No one had a opportunity to bid farewell to any one of those who we have mourned.”
